Recruiter Coaching: Top Echelon’s Recruiter Training Program

by | Feb 15, 2022 | Recruiter Training

Top Echelon has been helping recruiters since 1988, and one of the ways we’ve done so is with our recruiter consulting and recruiter training program. This program is officially called the Recruiter Coaching Series, which consists of online training for recruiters in the form of webinars.

These recruiter training webinars are conducted by some of the most popular trainers in the recruiting and staffing industry on the second Tuesday or Wednesday of every month. Top Echelon’s recruitment coaching series of webinars address both the fundamentals of the recruiting and staffing profession, as well as the latest tips, trends, and strategies in the industry. These topics deal with candidates, clients, and sometimes both, depending upon the speaker and their areas of specialization and expertise.

Online recruiter training programs

If you register for a live webinar and can not attend, we record the sessions so that you can access it at a later date. These recorded versions are then posted on our website as free recruiter training/coaching courses in the Top Echelon Recruiter Training Library. This library serves as a de facto recruiter training manual for search consultants, although it can also serve as hiring manager training for those who are responsible for the hiring duties within an organization.

Please note that if you’re looking for recruiter certification programs, there are two main organizations that offer certified recruiter training programs. They are the National Association of Personnel Services (NAPS) and the American Staffing Association (ASA). These organizations offer technical recruiter training programs that give participants the opportunity to earn an official certificate in recruitment. Once you’ve earned your recruiting certification, there is the matter of maintaining the certification through the earning of continuing education units (CEUs). Although Top Echelon doesn’t offer official certification for recruiters through its online recruitment training webinars, you can earn CEUs by attending these webinars.

In addition, Top Echelon’s recruiter training seminars and videos are sponsored by its recruiting software and applicant tracking system. However, they are different from the applicant system training that Top Echelon offers on the first Tuesday of every month. That form of ATS training is for Top Echelon recruiting software customers only. However, if you become a Top Echelon customer, then you will have access to both the ATS support and also the recruiting support in the form of this top-notch recruiter training program.

Recruiter coaching and the recruiting process

The recruiting process is a model of candidate sourcing for the purpose of finding and hiring new employees, or in the case of agency recruiters and search consultants, finding and placing new employees with their client companies. Typically, the ownership of the recruiting process resides within the Human Resources function, although as we just mentioned, organizations also use third-party recruiting agencies.

There are many steps to the recruiting process. However, some steps are more important than others, and there are sub-steps within the major steps. For the sake of brevity, below are the 10 most critical steps in the recruiting process:

  1. Identifying the Hiring Need
  2. Planning the Process for Talent Acquisition
  3. Searching (or Sourcing) for Talent
  4. Identifying Viable Candidates
  5. Recruiting of A-Level Candidates
  6. Telephone Screening
  7. Interviewing (In-Person or Interview)
  8. Offering of Employment
  9. Hiring of the Candidate
  10. Onboarding of the Candidate

A misstep at any stage of the recruiting process can disrupt a recruiter’s efforts to secure the best candidate available in the marketplace. This is why it’s crucial to continuously improve your skill set, so that you can meet the challenges and overcome the obstacles standing in the way of you and more success.

Recruiter coaching to improve your skill set

As you can see, the recruiting process is comprised of many steps, which makes training in recruitment a necessary endeavor. Fortunately, Top Echelon offers recruiting webinars that address each of these steps, and once again, these webinars are posted on our website as recruitment coaching training videos once the live webinars are over.

These online recruiter training webinars and videos include a range of topics. These topics include marketing, social media, interviewing, people management, negotiation, and how to advance your recruiting career. As you can see below, in most instances, Top Echelon offers multiple recruiting training videos within each category, allowing you to broaden your learning experience in a more comprehensive manner.

Marketing tips for recruitment

Most recruiters will tell you that they’re better at recruiting than they are at marketing. However, marketing is essential to success in recruiting, and that includes marketing to both candidates and clients.

Below are webinar videos in the Top Echelon Recruiter Training Library that deal with marketing tips for recruitment:

How to use social media for recruitment

As with just about everything, there’s a right way for a recruiter to approach social media and there’s a wrong way. If a recruiter approaches it the wrong way, they could waste a tremendous amount of time. And when you’re a recruiter, when you’re wasting time, you’re essentially wasting money.

Below are webinar videos in the Top Echelon Recruiter Training Library that deal with how to use social media for recruitment:

Interviewing tips and guides

The interviewing stage is one of the most important parts of the recruiting process. So it should come as no surprise that it’s also one of the most difficult stages to navigate. When a great candidate gets away, it’s usually because of something that went wrong during this stage of the process.

Below are webinar videos in the Top Echelon Recruiter Training Library that deal with interview tips and guides:

Recruiter coaching and people management

Let’s face it: recruiting is a sales profession. That’s because, as industry trainer Barb Bruno likes to say, there are human beings on both sides of the sale. That means there is twice the chance that somebody is going to say “No.” That’s why it’s imperative to know how to handle people, and specifically, how to handle them during the recruiting and hiring process.

Below are webinar videos in the Top Echelon Recruiter Training Library that deal with people management:

Negotiation tips for recruiters

In addition to the interviewing stage, the negotiation stage is also one of the most important stages of the recruiting process. This is when the candidate and the employer “put their cards on the table” in terms of their potential employer-employee relationship. That’s why negotiation skills are a must for recruiters, and those skills must be honed on a consistent basis.

Below are webinar videos in the Top Echelon Recruiter Training Library that deal with negotiation tips:

How to advance your recruiting career

Recruiters want to grow their career, just like everybody else. After all, they help other people grow their careers all the time. Why shouldn’t they be interested in advancing and growing their own careers? There are many aspects and facets of a recruiter’s career and there are many paths that a recruiter can take in their efforts to grow it.
