10 Things to Do BEFORE You Start Recruiting

by | Feb 19, 2015 | Recruiter Training, Top Echelon Blog

Our clients expect one thing from us—to provide them with results.  They depend on us to help them identify and hire the best talent available.

Technology has greatly impacted our profession, but the best candidates are still the “passive candidates” who are currently working, but who will make a change for the right opportunity.

You can represent these candidates through effective recruiting presentations.

There are 10 important steps to take BEFORE you start recruiting.  They are as follows:

1. You must know your current hot job orders inside and out.

2. You must know the selling points of each company.

3. You must know the hot buttons of candidates in your specialty area.

4. You must represent the companies that your candidates have identified as the hottest companies in the job market.

5. Always ask your clients if there are companies they would like you to target for your networking efforts.  Often, they will identify your recruiting list.  They have even been known to provide you with a specific name.

6. You must have various scripts written out that stress your expertise and experience.

7. You need to identify where you stand the greatest chance of success.  It is vitally important to put your recruiting efforts only on your hottest job orders/search assignments.

8. You need to get excited about the opportunities you are representing.  Your excitement will show in your voice.

9. Prior to your recruiting presentations, you need to anticipate any and all objections and be ready to overcome them.

10. Make sure the recruiting plans you’ve written give you the greatest chance for success.  Don’t just copy lists off the Internet!
