Are Companies Waiting Until After the Election to Hire?

by | Sep 25, 2012 | Recruiter Training, Top Echelon Blog

Seeing as how the Presidential Election is just around the corner and considering the fact there’s so much uncertainty in the economy these days, it might be a foregone conclusion that most companies are waiting until after the election to hire more employees.

However, that assumption would be incorrect, at least according to a recent poll that Top Echelon Network conducted of its Preferred Member recruiters.

We conduct a poll of our Preferred Members on a weekly basis, and we often ask them questions related to current events, especially about what they’re seeing “in the trenches.”  As small and independent recruiting firm owners, these recruiters have their pulse on what’s happening in the industry, and by extension, in the world of employment and hiring.

We polled recruiters from all across the country by posing the question below:

How many clients are waiting until after the Presidential Election before being more aggressive with hiring?

The choice of answers that we provided is listed below, along with the percentage of recruiters who selected each one:

  • None, they’re aggressive right now—54.7%
  • 25% or less—21.9%
  • About half of them—12.6%
  • Around 75%—6.2%
  • Almost all of them—4.7%

Surprisingly, over half of respondents (54.7%) indicated that their clients are aggressive right now with their hiring.  They’re not waiting until after the election; they want to fill their open positions immediately!

In addition, 21.9% of poll participants chose “25% or less” as their answer, meaning that the majority of their clients are aggressively hiring at the moment.  Over 12% indicated that half of their clients are waiting until after the election.

Clearly, the political and economic climate is not completely dictating how companies act in terms of hiring.  What have you seen in the marketplace?  How willing are your clients to “pull the trigger”?
