Recruiters Say 19% of Clients “Not Educated at All”

by | Jan 23, 2016 | Recruiter Training, Top Echelon Blog

Educating clients about current conditions in the hiring market seems like a never-ending job for some recruiters. But how many recruiters would that be? And how much do these recruiters feel that they need to educate their clients?

We all know that when companies aren’t properly educated about market conditions, placements don’t happen. That’s because those same companies lose out on talented individuals for any number of reasons.

One of the biggest reasons, though, is because they’re not properly educated about what’s currently happening in the market.

We recently conducted a poll of the Top Echelon Network Membership, one that addressed this important issue for recruiters. Below is the question that we posed in this poll:

How educated do you believe your clients are about hiring in today’s market?

Results:

The choice of answers that we provided is listed below, along with the percentage of recruiters who selected each one:

  • Very educated—11.5%
  • Somewhat educated—69.2%
  • Not educated at all—19.2%

Summary:

By far, the most popular answer was “somewhat educated” at over 69%, while “not educated at all” was second at nearly 20%. Perhaps not surprisingly, only 11.5% of recruiters responded “Very educated” in describing their clients.  With less than 10% of clients on top of current market trends (at least according to this poll), a need clearly exists for recruiters to help educate their clients.

In fact, the percentage of recruiters that indicated their clients aren’t educated at all was nearly three times more than the percentage that indicated their clients are very educated about the hiring market. That disparity is a very telling one.

Analysis and conclusion:

The majority of recruiters say their clients are “somewhat educated” about the marketplace. But are they hedging their bets? And how many placements fall through because a client was “somewhat educated” about the market and the nature of the hiring environment? Is being “somewhat educated” enough? And why am I asking all of these questions if this is the “analysis and conclusion” section of this blog post?

The fact of the matter is that unless 100% of clients are “very educated” about today’s market, then candidates are going to get lost or get away and placements are going to “fall through the cracks.” It’s inevitable, and that’s why educating clients about current conditions in the hiring market should be a never-ending job for recruiters. Recruiters say their clients are “somewhat educated,” but some of the onus for educating those hiring managers and company officials falls on the shoulders of those recruiters.
